Hunt Residencies VIII

Nature in the broadest sense is the universe and everything in it. My paintings act as individual reflections of nature. I am inspired by the many recurring forms and patterns that life has taken over the last 3.7 billion years. The brushstrokes may create an ebb and flow as the ocean tides do, or as one breathes. Forms may meander and branch off like veins in your skin or a plant’s roots. I may dot the canvas with paint like freckles on a face or stars in the night sky. Colors are very important to me because they can invoke strong emotion. I ensure that the colors in my paintings interact with each other in dynamic ways, creating an almost psychedelic effect. I create an engaging visual experience that draws the viewer in to experience these constantly evolving and living phenomena through their own unique lenses. That participation with my work forges a connection in a way that embodies the fact that we are not outside of nature. Rather, we are nature ourselves. My work is an exploration of interconnectedness of all. I am bridging the worlds of micro and macro, past and present, to convey that we are all much vaster and more complex than we could ever imagine.
